Summer 2018 Update!

Summer at Neighborhood House is in full swing, and the children are beyond excited for what’s planned. Dreamers’ Academy is our summer program dedicated to inspiring the youth to dream about their futures, and develop specific plans to help them achieve those dreams. Through educational and recreational activities, t

he youth are immersed in a full day’s worth of enriching experiences.

We had the chance to speak with one of our enrolled members, Cherish. Here’s what she had to say about Dreamers’ Academy:

What’s your name and how old are you?

My name is Cherish, and I turn 11 years old on Thursday. (Happy birthday, Cherish!)

How many years have you been coming to Neighborhood House?

Four years.

What group are you in Dreamers’?

Dream Chasers!

What’s been your favorite thing so far this summer?

The swimming field trip.

What’s your dream?

I want to be a nurse so that if anyone in my family ever gets sick, I’ll be there to help them.

What would you tell someone who was thinking about joining Neighborhood House’s Youth Program?

It’s a good place to be. It’s fun, and they help you with your school stuff. I want them to believe in their dreams.

Cherish is just one of 106 youth enrolled in Dreamers’, ranging from ages six to fifteen years old. Each day, they join their groups and enjoy various activities such as step team, photography classes, playing games in the gym, music classes, weekly field trips, and other exciting opportunities.

We’re only a few weeks in, but the summer looks bright and promising!

In other exciting news, we are thrilled to announce that Melinda Dennis has been promoted to Director of the Child Development Center. Her passion, determination, and dedication to Neighborhood House and the CDC has been greatly appreciated, and we are excited for the future we will have with her new role. Congratulations, Melinda!
