Create a Legacy

When you make a gift in your will to Neighborhood House, you create a legacy that will make a difference for generations to come. Neighborhood House has been a pillar of the community since 1896, and with your support, we plan to be around for centuries to come, as long as folks need us.
Bequests are gifts that are made as part of a will or trust. Anyone can make a bequest—in any amount—to an individual or charity. Bequests can be simple—“I give $1,000 to my grandson”—or complex, with conditions about how the gifts can be used. Charitable bequests are flexible and easy to update. You can write one into a will with a short paragraph, and if circumstances change you can revoke it just as easily in a subsequent will or codicil. Estate planning professionals often counsel their clients to have an annual or bi-annual estate plan “check-up” to ensure that the most recent version of the client’s will reflects their wishes.
  1. For an unrestricted gift that allows Neighborhood House to determine how to use the funds based on the most pressing needs, use the following language for your will and/or trust:

I give to Neighborhood House Inc., a nonprofit corporation currently located at 201 N. 25th Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40212, or its successor thereto, _________[written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted charitable use and purpose."

  1. To designate your provision for a particular purpose:

I give to Neighborhood House Inc., a nonprofit corporation currently located at 201 N. 25th Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40212, or its successor thereto, _________[written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property]. This gift should be used for (state purpose) if and so long as Neighborhood House determines that the need exists. If Neighborhood House shall determine at the outset or at a later time that the need does not exist, or no longer exists or for some reason it is not possible (or prudent) to administer my gift as originally intended, then Neighborhood House may, in its sole and uncontrolled discretion, direct the use of my bequest for a purpose related as closely as possible to that stated above."

  1. If you have named Neighborhood House in your will or trust, please let us know so we can ensure that your gift is used according to your wishes. Notifying us of your plans will enable us to plan for the use of your future gift. However, if you prefer to remain anonymous, we will keep your name and gift in strict confidence.
