A Dreamer's Summer

We've got a bustling building full of kids, and you know what that means - summer! Our Dreamer's Academy is in full swing with approximately 65 kids showing up each day to participate in field trips, educational programming, and daily activities. We're also partnering with JCPS this summer to host an additional 45 kids for a program called Backpack League. Our little kids have been soaking up the sun on the natural playground, and we've welcomed two new Child Development Center teachers. You can find our senior members playing bingo, listening to music, and occasionally getting a quick (and very cute) 'My Baby Bumble Bee' performance from our CDC kids.

This month we also hosted our second Neighbor Nite, which helps connects our members to one another and to community resources. We have also had the privilege to work with One Source Logistics who completely renovated our art room. We are so excited about this beautiful space.

All in all, June was a busy month and we wouldn't have had it any other way!

Dreamer's Academy Field Trips

From the Belle of Louisville to roller skating, our kids have been loving field trip Fridays and afternoons at the Parklands on Tuesday. Every summer, we give our youth members a chance to create connections with their peers and experience enriching activities around the city.

Juneteenth

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, is the oldest holiday commemorating emancipation from slavery in the United States. At Neighborhood House we intentionally create spaces for our members to learn and celebrate their history. We acknowledge the institutional injustices still present in our country, and we strive to teach our young members how to become agents of change within their community. On June 17th we hosted a cookout to celebrate Juneteenth as a Neighborhood House family.

Upgraded Art Room

Thank you, One Source Logistics for transforming our art room into a beautiful, creative space for our kids. This has quickly become a popular room in our building, and our kids are loving all of the possibilities this new and improved area brings!

Neighbor Nite

We hosted our second Neighbor Nite and it was even better than the first. We were happy to see so many familiar faces and some new ones. These nights are multigenerational, and we love having folks from the twinkle to the wrinkle in the room. We shared big and small accomplishments, learned about community resources, and broke bread together. A huge thank you to Face It for being one of our sponsors and The Book Spot Bus for giving our families free books to take home.
